Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast Cancer is when cells in the breast don't grow right and a tumor forms.African American women are more likely than all other women to die from breast cancer.Currently there is no cure for Breast Cancer, but there are procedures and therapy one goes through if they have the illness. These include, Radiation, Chemotherapy,Surgery, and Hormonal Therapy.

There are things you can do to find breast cancer early:

*Get a mammogram. It is the best way to find out if you have breast cancer. A mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breast. It can find breast cancer that is too small for you or your doctor to feel. All women starting at age 40 should get a mammogram every one to two years. Talk to your doctor about how often you need a mammogram. If your mother or sister had breast cancer, you may need to start getting mammograms earlier.

A breast self-exam and a clinical breast exam are not substitutes for mammograms.

*Get a clinical breast exam. This is a breast exam done by your doctor or nurse. She or he will check your breasts and underarms for any lumps, nipple discharge, or other changes. The breast exam should be part of a routine check up.

*Get to know your breasts. You may do monthly breast self-exams to check for any changes in your breasts. If you find a change, see your doctor right away.

I encourage anyone to get checked out and know your health and status.

Wave Nouveau Moisturizing Finishing Lotion

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah...I know I'm late with trying this product. But THANK GOD I DID!!! I love this finishing lotion.

This product states that :

The unique formula provides body and shine as it revitalizes hair to look its best. This light lotion penetrates easily and enhances hair so that maximum styling options can be explored.

I've been trying to find a staple product to use to moisturize my hair. I usually have been using the S-Curl NO DRIP, but I ran out. So I purchased this just to try it and instantly fell in love with it. I moisturized my hair in sections with it and sealed with a little olive oil. It didn't weigh my hair down, or make it feel greasy. It wasn't too watery either.

This is definitely going to be a main staple for now on.

Shea Butter

Shea Butter is one product that has many uses for me. Shea Butter is contributed to having many positive effects on its nourishing, enriching and toning properties for skin and hair.
Shea butter is known especially for its cosmetic properties as a moisturizer and emollient.Shea butter is known for being

effective at treating the following conditions: fading scars, eczema, burns, rashes, acne, severely dry skin, blemishes, dark spots, skin discolorations, chapped lips, stretchmarks, wrinkles, and in lessening the irritation of psoriasis.Shea butter absorbs rapidly into the skin without leaving a greasy feeling.

For Hair:
Apply unrefined shea butter at least twice a week to your hair & once a week to your scalp. It improves hair texture, hair moisture & hair growth. Shea Butter grooms locs.

Apply Unrefined Shea Butter to your hair before swimming to help protect your hair from the chlorine & salt. After swimming, shampoo & condition your hair right away. A little shea butter before & after you dry your hair is a good idea.

For Body:
After you finis showering or bathing, take a generous amount of shea butter to smooth into the skin. Pay close attention to areas that are prone to dryness, any marks that you may want to smooth and lessen the appearance of.

Glycerin

My ultimate beauty secret is Glycerin. I can't get enough of this stuff.

I use Glycerin in alot of different products. Body lotions, conditioners, water mixes. I also use a glycerin- based soap.

What is Glycerin?

Glycerin is a humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to your skin.

Glycerin is a water-soluble conditioning alcohol and is an extremely effective moisturizer and humectant. This means that all the usual things to be aware of regarding humectants, curly hair, and the weather are applicable when using glycerin.
Its viscosity and clarity make it a great ingredient to give definition to curls and to smooth the fly-away hair.
Use it in combination with another conditioning agent if planning to use heat-styling methods.
Do not use glycerin right after using a permanent dye on the hair, and consider avoiding it if you use semi-permanent or red color on your hair.

If your having issues of dry skin, or dry hair, this is a product worth looking into. HTH

Protective Styles

Protective Styles

Basically, any hairstyle that doesn't brush up against your clothes is a protective style.

OK, so right now I have Shoulder Length hair. Its at that critical length where I have to be extra conscious of my ends, so I don't have any breakage or split ends. I have been trying out up-do's, braids, and braid outs as styles to help protect my hair. I don't put my hair in Buns because I don't like the way they look on me but that is also one style that is considered a protective style.

Wearing scarves and head wraps are beneficial in protecting your hair. Straw hats that allow your scalp to breathe during the humidity, and wearing a straw hat throughout the summer seasons are also protective styles. Braids extensions protect the hair and will be a good hair growth investment if the extensions are not put in very tight.

When your hair reaches shoulder length, it's the most vulnerable, since your hair will be making contact with your clothes. This is the time to wear your hair off the shoulders. When the hair grows at least 3-4 inches past the shoulders, it is not so vulnerable to break.
The ends of your hair will not be sweeping against your clothing but will be lying on your clothing. This is less friction against your hair.
